While searching through our photos, I’m always struck by the range and amount of wildlife we have seen while on our travels in Western Canada. So why not a whole post dedicated to the topic?
Wild and wonderful
Here are some of our favourite wildlife sightings in BC, Yukon, Alberta and NWT over the last few years. All are completely wild animals (i.e. not living in captivation) and photographed in their natural habitat. I would love to hear about the animals you have spotted on your own adventures, whether in Canada or otherwise.
All photos were taken with Canon Powershot SX50 Camera (affiliate link)
We had the chance to observe this lynx as he hunted for his next meal on the side of the road in Alberta. We don’t know if it caught anything but he was in full hunting mode, completely ignoring us as JR took this picture. It was strange to see a wild animal acting just like a house cat on the hunt.
This moose was incredibly nonchalant as he crossed the road. I am always so impressed by how big moose can be. People often ask if we’re ever concerned about bears while exploring the wilderness of Canada. I’m actually more afraid of moose! They are very powerful and surprisingly fast.
These two young mountain goats were playing at being adults. Surrounded by the herd, they were just playfully butting heads.
This protective mother bear having a stroll with her two cubs a Vancouver Island logging road. The bear cubs did not seem too bothered about us but the mother was well aware that we were there. We did not get out of the van for this photo.
